KUCHING: The public is reminded to always remain vigilant against the rising prevalence of online fraud crimes.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said that it can affect all segments of society, regardless of background.
“Victims of online fraud can happen to anyone including those who are educated, young or old, students or even myself if we’re not cautious in using the current technology,” he said when officiating the Anti-Fraud Awareness Seminar at Chung Hua Middle School No 4 here today.
He added that one way to avoid becoming a victim of online fraud is to attend seminars to gain exposure and hear the experiences of individuals who have been victimised.
Dr Sim also urged the public to stay informed about the evolving tactics used on social media to avoid falling for these schemes.
Meanwhile, the organisers said that such seminars are first organised at school levels to educate students about online fraud issues.
