KAPIT: An advisor to the Chief Minister’s Department, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, has urged the people to stay united for the future of Kapit.

“In Kapit, we are always together in harmony. In fact, in my family, there are Ibans, Chinese and Malays. My mother-in-law is a Teochew (adopted by Dayak). That is why it is very important that we stay together to make sure Kapit develops well so that those who stay here benefit.

“Politics is our system. Whoever is there as the leader must be responsible to deliver. We (elected people’s representative) can’t do our job without the cooperation and help from all,” he said at a Chiang Hsia Hwang Clan Association event on Thursday.

Alexander reiterated that Kapit had been developing and advised the people not to complain that Kapit had no development.

“It is wrong to say Kapit has no development. I have been to many towns in Sarawak. I can tell you Kapit is developing very well.

“There are various big and small projects implemented here, especially for infrastructure and amenities. Compared to other towns in Sarawak, the rental here is very high because there is high demand.

“If people have no money, business is slow, there is lower demand, and rental would decline. Now, it is very high. Things here are expensive, for instance, food, vegetables, wildlife meat and fish but we can afford them.

“That explains why our town is always full of people, roads filled with cars here and there, causing traffic jams every day in the morning,” he pointed out.

Alexander said if people wanted to complain, then they should complain about four-digit punting centres instead.

“In fact, if you have any complaints, you (Chinese Chamber of Commerce, non-governmental associations, clubs, and organisations) should complain about 4D punting.

“One week there are draws and each week, at least RM500,000 is drained from our market. Kapit is only a small town. It is like a vacuum cleaner, our money is taken away,” he said.
