KUCHING: Sarawak Tourism Board will highlight its first Tourism Virtual Reality (VR) experience this weekend at the MATTA Fair, to be held at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

This is part of its new marketing initiative to embrace digital technology in the promotion of tourism in the State. 

Interactively, the VR technology to be shared with MATTA visitors will feature a new dimension in travel experience between consumers and the destination.

Ashweein Narayanan, the Executive Director of Kuching based Amogha Tours and Travel, will provide a technical  demonstration to try out the new Sarawak virtual experience using Samsung Gear VR experience available at Sarawak Tourism booth during the MATTA Fair.

Ashweein has  expressed his wish bring the State’s  tourism industry  to a whole new level in line with the Sarawak Chief Minister’s vision to ‘digitise’ all industries, saying that conventional methods of sales and marketing may no longer be so viable and innovative methods were needed to garner the attention of the public.

This year, STB has set up a promotional campaign website, matta2018.sarawaktourism.com, dedicated to promote Sarawak’s unique tour packages

The hashtags, #TokNyaSarawak and #ThisIsSarawak, are also being used on social media platforms to promote Sarawak’s exhibitors and their packages at the Fair.

Another attraction at the Sarawak Booth will be traditional costume display, traditional dance performances at the mini-stage, Sarawak food sampling as offers for lucky participants who will have the chance to redeem free gifts.

Exhibitors at the Sarawak Booth include Kuching Holidays and Car Rental Sdn Bhd, Ecogreen Holidays Sdn Bhd, Brighton Travel and Tour Sdn Bhd, Greatown Travel Sdn Bhd, Inter-Continental Travel Centre Sdn Bhd, Amogha Tours and Travel Sdn Bhd, Great Leap Tours Sdn Bhd, Jaunt Asia Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd and Hornbill Tours Car Rental Sdn Bhd, Grand Continental Kuching, Tune Hotel Waterfront as well as SEDC Tourism and Hospitality Group of Companies.

Also exhibiting at the Sarawak Booth will be the Rainforest Fringe Festival, featuring a week-long city festival that takes place in Kuching before the Rainforest World Music Festival from July 13-15.

The No Black Tie which will manage the Borneo Jazz 2018 in Miri on May 11 and 12 will also be present to promote the weekend festival.

The Sarawak Booth with the No. 5034-5041 is located at Hall No. 5, close to the main entrance.

This year, MATTA Fair is populated with 1,324 booths offering travelling packages, 207 of which are domestic exhibitor booths, from 10am to 9pm over seven exhibition halls.
