SONG: Having a personality that is quite attractive and confident in front of the audience ensured that the title of Song District Kumang Gawai Dayak was awarded to Stephnie Clara, 18, at the Song District Kumang Gawai Competition 2024 held in conjunction with the Song District Gawai Dayak Mantar Dinner celebration at Balai Raya Song last night.

The Iban lass from Rh Edward Minggu Kebiau Song brought home a cash prize of RM3,000 along with a trophy, crown, Kumang sash, flowers and a hamper.

The 2nd runner-up was Vanessa Grace Tali, 19, a Melanau girl from Kampung Bedil Kanowit who won RM2,000 in cash along with a trophy, crown, Lulong sash, flowers and a hamper.

Third place went to Astina Anabella Augustine, 21 from Rh Golbert Nyadang Sg Tekalit Song, who won RM1,000 in cash along with a trophy, crown, Selinggar Matahari sash, flowers and a hamper.

Joining the competition were four other participants consisting of Lidwina Banggi, 19, (Kanowit) Rosnyelia Ida, 21, (Song), Arlyn, 19, (Song) and Nani Saban, 18, (Song). Each received a consolation cash prize of RM800.

On hand to present the prizes were the wife of federal Minister of Works, Datin Seri Angelina Celestine Ujang and the wife of Katibas assemblyman, Noria Uju.

Also present were Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan, Song District Officer Harry Bruce Edwin, political secretary to the Minister of Works Ambrose Abong Bugek, chairman of the Song District Gawai Main Committee Francis Dana Chuat, Kapit Division Resident’s representative Sebastian Siba, Sarawak Premier’s political secretaries Maurice Joannes Giri and Watson Awan Jalai.
