MUKAH: The district police have issued stern warnings to people not to spread false news regarding the positive Covid-19 cases in Mukah.
Any party found spreading unauthentic information and rumours regarding Covid-19 will be subjected to legal action, said district police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau.
“Recently, there have been activities by some people who dare to spread false news on the district’s Covid-19 cases orally or on social media.
“In fact, there are statements, comments and information provided to third parties that are clearly not referring to the authenticity of the information to the Mukah Health Department,” he told.
As such, these irresponsible actions of spreading inaccurate information had caused panic and annoyance among the local community.
Jimmy said it had led educational institutions around Mukah to be affected as parents and guardians decided not to send their children to school.
Some teachers who received this false information, also acted by not allowing students go to school on the grounds that one of the students was suspected of being a carrier of Covid-19.
“Besides that, there are also those who quarantined themselves without the instructions from relevant authorities.
“That being said, the ministry has never issued any quarantine order to the student’s family,” he explained.
