KUCHING: Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and its subsidiaries handed out contributions to 61 charitable organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) amounting to RM276,000.
The contributions were presented by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan in an event at Wisma Sumber Alam here yesterday.
“With these contributions, we hope that it can help them with their activities. I also hope that many more parties will come forward and follow what STIDC has done to contribute to organisations, charitable bodies, and NGOs to conduct their activities,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, speaking on the timber industry, the Deputy Chief Minister said that it has gone through a transformation and that they need to focus more on downstream industry.
“Our main focus at this time is to empower the downstream industry and develop the furniture-making industry that has a higher value compared to the upstream industry.
“This is what we need to do if we want our export value to increase and I hope that those involved can work together to accomplish this,” he added.
