KUCHING: Search and rescue (SAR) operations for the missing four-year-old boy Eric Chang Wei Jie at Kampung Muara Tebas continue into the fifth day today.

As of 8am, the search radius was expanded to one to 1.5 kilometres on land following low tides.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said assets such as boats from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and police marine were deployed.

Personnel from the Tabuna Jaya Bomba station together with firemen from the Bako Indah auxiliary unit and drones from the Police Air Wing Unit were involved in the mission with the aid of a villager who helped guide the search party.

A Bomba K-9 Unit also joined in the operations with one dog and two handlers.

Eric was reported missing by his mother on March 7 and the case was investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 but was later reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
