KUCHING: A man experienced relief when his motorcycle, reported missing three years ago, was finally recovered.
The breakthrough occurred when police, conducting a crime prevention patrol in Lorong Punica, Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa, on Nov 10, 2023, detained a motorcyclist exhibiting suspicious behaviour.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the licence plate on the motorcycle was counterfeit. A detailed examination of the vehicle’s chassis number confirmed it to be the same motorcycle reported missing on Feb 21, 2020.
The 21-year-old owner positively identified the recovered vehicle as his own, corroborating the previous theft report filed on Nov 21, 2020, at around 6.40pm, wherein he stated that his motorcycle had been stolen from in front of a building.
The complainant incurred a loss of about RM2,000 due to the theft.
Mohd Taufeq Kalang, 30, the motorcycle thief, faced consequences as he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court.
He pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code for possessing the stolen Honda motorcycle.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan ordered the accused to commence serving the prison sentence from the date of arrest.
Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang handled the prosecution while the accused did not have legal representation.
