KUCHING: Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) recorded 12 Christmas babies, four of them girls.
The first Christmas baby was a 3.2-kg girl named Stephanie. She arrived at 4.10am and is the first child of 17-year-old hairdresser Pui See Yung.
Pui said she was expecting to deliver her baby on Dec 29 but the doctor advised her to go to the hospital on Dec 24 and prepare for delivery.
“I am very happy and feel lucky that my baby is born on Christmas Day,” she said.
Pui said although she was a Buddhist, she felt blessed that her baby shared the same birthdate as Jesus Christ.
Four of the 12 babies were Chinese, seven Malay and one Bidayuh.
The Bidayuh baby girl, who weighed 2.74 kg, was born at 10.20am.
The last Christmas baby, a boy, was born at 11.23am.
Meanwhile, two baby girls were born at KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital on Dec 25. Both were Chinese.
The first girl, who weighed 2.99 kg, was born at 7.52am while the second girl, who weighed 3.45 kg, was born at 8.00am.
