BELADIN: An early morning storm struck Kampung Hulu Tengah today (July 16), leaving a trail of destruction as it blew off the roofs of 12 houses.
The incident affected a total of 40 residents, and no injuries were reported among them.
The affected residents have sought temporary shelter with their relatives and neighbours while awaiting the necessary repairs to their damaged homes.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Saratok station were despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 6.30am.
Navigating through challenging conditions, the team embarked on a one-hour, 30-minute journey to reach the village, which involved traversing the main road and waterway by utilising the ferry to access the remote village.
When the team arrived at the scene, they only focused on monitoring the situation and ensuring the safety of everyone.
Once the situation was deemed safe, they concluded the operation and headed back to their station.
The Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM) and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) were also present at the scene to offer assistance.
