KUCHING: The stranded boat which was mysteriously found ashore on Trombol beach on Wednesday (Jan 4) was first sighted by Saniah Masran and her daughter.

Despite the heavy downpour and high tide, she and her daughter Hamiza Yusuf took the decision to check the stranded boat which initially looked like floating victims from afar requesting for help.

According to her, they had to walk almost 30 minutes to the boat before it landed on the beach.

In recalling the incident that happened around 1.30pm on that day, Saniah had assumed that the stranded boat with a ‘Bohaimingzhu 2’ written on it was a sunken boat.

“We ran and went on top of the boat as we were concerned if there were any victims in the boat.

“No one was seen inside the boat, the only thing that was seen inside were food and drinks,” the 58-year old said.

Saniah informed reporters that she and her daughter had to cast an anchor to the beach.

She added that the villagers in the area only came to know about the incident at 3 pm, nearly two hours later.

Meanwhile Hamiza admitted that this was their first time witnessing such an incident ever since they worked as ticket attendants at Trombol Beach, six months ago.

The 28-year old Hamiza also mentioned that she followed her mother to the boat as she was concerned for the latter’s safety.

“I was concerned and afraid that there were individuals or victims inside the stranded boat,” she said.

She added that her first observation of the boat was that water began to enter into it.
