KUCHING: Two individuals with special needs who suffered from fatigue while descending Mount Santubong, were successfully rescued by firefighters.

The incident happened on Friday (May 6) when a Sarawak Forestry ranger informed the Fire and Rescue Department around 5pm that the hikers were stranded at level 8 of the mountain.

It was revealed that the victims, a man and woman, in their mid-20s, are both deaf and speech-impaired.

Firemen from Petra Jaya station were quickly despatched to the scene to commence rescue works.

Both victims were assisted down the mountain by the rescuers and they arrived safely at the base at 7.30pm.

It was reported that the two hikers were in good health and did not suffer any injuries.
