KUCHING: All’s well that ends well. The three fishing enthusiasts trapped by rising tide at Kampung Trombol beach, Telaga Air yesterday (Feb 12) are safe and sound.
They were rescued by firefighters last night (Feb 12).
The state Fire and Rescue (Bomba) operations centre said the rescue team made up of firefighters and villagers rescued the trapped victims around 9.27pm.
Earlier, a search and rescue team in a boat had to abandon rescue efforts and return to Kampung Trombol because the area that the victims were trapped in was inaccessible to vessels. The rescuers had to walk along the coastal route to the victim’s location.
“The rescue team had to traverse the strong current to approach the location, which is a small island adjacent to Trombol Beach.
“The victims aged 27, 30 and 31, were safely rescued and were taken to the fire control post for a medical examination,” a spokesperson for the operations centre said.
The victims had gone to the beach on their motorcycles to fish. While they were engrossed in their activity, they failed to realise the rising tide was cutting them off from the road.
They immediately alerted firefighters around 2.55pm and went to find higher ground to be safe from the rising tide.
