KUCHING: Sarawak is expected to see an upward trend in strata-titled properties, said Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang.
He said although Sarawakians generally tend to prefer landed properties, but with clear regulations for strata management and maintenance in place, more would go for strata-titled properties.
“The upward trend of strata-titled properties does not confine to Kuching only, but also in Miri, Bintulu, and Sibu,” he said at the closing ceremony of ‘Your Essential Guide to Strata Management and Maintenance in Sarawak’ seminar at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.
Tiang also said the new legislation – Strata Management Ordinance 2019 (Strata Management and Maintenance) Regulations 2022 and the Strata (Subsidiary Titles) Ordinance 2019 is meant to add value to and improve standards and expectations of strata living.
“Properly implemented, rules, processes and procedures are foundational towards encouraging potential homeowners to actively consider strata-titled properties,” he said.
Commenting on the seminar which was jointly organised by the ministry, Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHEDA), and Sarawak Land and Survey Development (JTS), Tiang said the material presented and explained throughout the course of the seminar series is meant to assist in the management and maintenance of strata-titled properties.
“It is meant to promote effective administrative procedures within each development as well as to give a sense of safety, security and assurance to its occupants,” he said.
He said the organising committee’s willingness to hold these seminars in Miri, Bintulu and Sibu, even though there are fewer strata development projects there at the moment compared to Kuching, also reflects the Sarawak government’s agenda of inclusivity and equity.
“Therefore, due to popular demand, even though we will officially close the series of seminars today, we are pleased to announce that one more seminar will be held in Kuching on Sept 12 and 13.
“This will be a final opportunity for anyone to attend this series and there is a maximum of 220 seats available,” he said.
