SIBU: The sixth series of The Stage programme (The Stage 6.0) will be held from October 4 to 6 this year, focusing on street dancing, said Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.
He said that the programme, gaining popularity among the the youth, will be organised as the Borneo International Street Dance Festival.
Chieng added that his team had chosen ‘Blast Your Stage’ as the theme for this sixth series, which would feature dancers from around the world.
“I want to introduce street dance culture, especially to the young ones in Sibu, because I know that there are a lot of dance groups here but unfortunately, they do not have a platform.
“So, I would like them to come and mingle with the international and national teams, learn from their experience, and participate in the competition,” he told reporters at the closing ceremony of The Stage 5.0 at Rejang Esplanade here last night (June 9).
Meanwhile, speaking about The Stage 5.0, Chieng said the response from the public was very encouraging, with around 3,000 visitors attending each night from June 7 to 9.
“This has successfully proven that the programme has established itself in the hearts of the youth,” he said.
Regarding his hopes for future events, Chieng said his team was working to attract more visitors, particularly from the Bumiputera community, as their participation was relatively low.
The Stage programme has been organised since 2022 by the Bukit Assek Service Centre in collaboration with various associations such as the Kelab Penggiat Seni Kreatif Sibu-Hyper Young and Junior Chamber International (JCI) Seduan.
