SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development Team with officers from Sarawak Energy Berhad, District Office of Matu and Matu-Daro Council made a site visit to Sebedil and Rassau areas yesterday (Oct 25) to check on the locations for street lighting installation .

The team leader, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie said the visit is to ensure that the streetlights would be installed at the right places so that it will benefit the people at the longhouse nearby.

“The allocation for the streetlighting projects is RM100,000 for each area (Sebedil and Rassau).

“So, today, we explained to the longhouse chiefs in the areas concerned that we will try to distribute the streetlights as fair as possible and at the same time, we also want to prioritise to improve the safety of certain areas especially at dark corner area,” he said.

He informed that the fund will be from the Special Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund.

Lau also added that the final proposal for the streetlights installation would be done by Sarawak Energy.

“The cost will also depend on whether there is a need to put in the pole or add on transformer in case the supply is insufficient,” he said.

Additionally, Lau also went for a site visit to Kampung Bungan with Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) officers to check-out on the upgrading of jetty.

He disclosed that the project allocation for Kampung Bungan was about RM150,000.

“We hope that the implementation will be done soonest, so that the RTP projects will be completed accordingly,” Lau pointed out.
