KUCHING: It is important that the local council forms a strong relationship with the community under its jurisdiction, said Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
He said in the case of the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and the community, it has allowed for smooth implementation and delivery of projects on the ground.
“This is because, when the people are close with the council, they know who they should direct their complaints and enquiries to.
“It also allows the local community (leaders) to be able to better fulfil their duties and responsibilities,” he said.
He said this when speaking to reporters after a programme to distribute ‘bubur pedas’ organised by DBKU at Surau Darul Fadzillah, Kampung Gita Laut here today.
Fazzrudin said with a better understanding of the limitations faced by the local council being the implementing body of projects, it allows the local community leaders to explain better to those under their care.
He said for DBKU, its mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan since being appointed has always adopted an open-door policy.
“It doesn’t matter that if the complaints do not fall under DBKU’s jurisdiction, he (Junaidi) will help to bring it up to the relevant authorities.
“That is his commitment. But at the same time, as responsible members of the community, we need to educate ourselves on government procedures. At least, we have some idea on its limitations,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Tupong assemblyman also lauded DBKU as well as its Friendly Neighbourhood (KJM) for their initiative to be with the community through such a programme.
During the programme, a total of 600 packs of ‘bubur pedas’ were distributed to members of the public at Kampung Gita Laut.
Also present were Junaidi, PBB Tupong deputy division chief Datuk Dr Zaiedi Suhaili, as well as members of KJM, the surau committee and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Kampung Gita Laut sub-branch.
