MIRI: Strong winds on Wednesday night (July 22) ripped off the roofs of numerous roadside stalls and premises in Tamu Simpang Bekenu and Batu Niah.

The strong winds, accompanied by heavy rains, started around 11pm.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.

This morning (July 23), Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni shared some photos of the affected stalls and premises that were badly damaged and destroyed on his Facebook page.

Worried and concerned over the incident, Lukanisman disclosed that he had instructed officers from his Sibuti service centre to go to the scene and check on the current situation in order to assess the damages in the affected areas.

He also encouraged victims to report to him or the relevant agencies to enable them to help them.

Simpang Bekenu is located at about 48 minutes’ drive from Miri via Miri Coastal Road while it takes about one hour and 15 minutes from the city centre to reach Batu Niah.
