KUCHING: Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) welcomes a proposal by the state government to have all primary schools equipped with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) laboratories.
Its president Macky Joseph said it was a good move and he believed that it would attract pupils to study STEM subjects.
“STU supports the move to enhance learning in school by making it more fun and effective,” he said.
He said it could also encourage pupils with hands-on learning and nourish the practical aspects of what they learn which might be related to their daily lives.
“We hope that the STEM labs would also have fast and permanent Internet connections,” he said, adding that the labs would have ample and proper spaces and settings.
Last Nov 12, Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin proposed that all primary schools in the state should have STEM labs to give hands-on experience to pupils and to inculcate the love of STEM subjects in them so that more would get into the science stream.
