LIMBANG: The start of the school day turned nightmarish for a student after his right leg got stuck in a metal drain cover this morning.
The student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Patiambun had to go through the painful ordeal for about 20 minutes.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 7 operations officer Clarence D. Primus Tiandun said his department was alerted to the incident at 6.12 am.
A team from Limbang fire station which rushed to the scene found the student’s right leg stuck up to his thigh in the metal drain gap.
The Bomba personnel had to use a special cutting tool to pry open the steel cover and free the student.
After a tense 12-minute operation, the boy was finally freed. Fortunately for him he did not sustain any serious injuries.
