KUCHING: The Satok Student Personal Accident Insurance scheme which covers all pre-schoolers and primary school pupils in the constituency paid RM22,233.35 in compensation to its claimants.
The amount was paid for two claims, the first is paid to Ally Nazrullah Abdullah worth RM21,500 while another is paid to Aniq Rizqi Marzuki worth RM733.55.
The scheme, announced last year provides comprehensive coverage for accidents involving students and deaths to a student’s guardian.
The presentation of the compensation claim cheques was held today by Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki at the Satok STEM Education Exploration Carnival.
“At PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) Satok, following the suggestion by our Education Bureau, we proposed that all pre schoolers and primary school students are covered by insurance.
“This includes everyone regardless of their background, whether they are rich or poor, all of them are covered,” he said in his speech.
Ibrahim said insurance provided comprehensive coverage and not limited to covering the students whilst they are at school.
“Even when they are on their holiday abroad, they are covered. So, the parents are relieved as they do not have to worry about ensuring that their children receive insurance coverage.
“Similarly, if anything happens to the guardian or the parents of the student, such as death, the students are also covered,” he said.
Earlier, Ibrahim also presented cheques to the representatives of SK Rakyat, SK Combined, SK Merpati Jepang and SJK Chung Hua No. 4 for the renewal of the insurance scheme in 2024.
