KUANTAN: Attracted by a cheap iPhone 7 plus smartphone offer on social sites had caused a teenage girl to lose over RM5,000.
Pahang Commercial Criminal Investigation Department chief Supt Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusuf said the 18-year-old student claimed that the smartphone was advertised on Facebook on April 1.
“The victim claims that the price of the smartphone is RM780, but she was continuously being asked to make payment until the amount reaches RM5,780,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Mohd Wazir said the victim who hailed from Jengka, Maran near here was also given various reasons when she asked and until yesterday, had not received the smartphone.
Hence, she lodged a police report at Maran district police headquarters (IPD) and investigations were conducted under Section 420 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum jail term of 10 years and whipping and could be fined, upon conviction. – Bernama
