BINTULU: More than 400 primary and secondary students from schools in Bintulu participated in the Discover PETRONAS @Schools programme held at the new Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) here on Wednesday.

The programme, aimed at cultivating students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) was held in conjunction with the launch of MRSM Bintulu.

PETRONAS chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh said the programme was also an initiative by PETRONAS to increase students’ awareness of the company’s education sponsorships.

“We also want to give them exposure to potential careers in the oil, gas and energy industry.

“This programme includes interesting activities such as science shows, science exhibitions, and various other interactive activities,” he said during the launching ceremony.

The programme included an information sharing session on PETRONAS and MRSM’s education strategies.

“To date, more than 1,100 students in Mukah, Kota Samarahan and Miri have participated in similar programmes to provide them with exposure  to the oil and gas industry,” he said.
