KUCHING: A group of 32 students aged seven to 18 spent the day learning about life as a firefighter with the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Bomba Sarawak director Datuk Khirudin Drahman said one of the objectives of ‘My Career as a Firefighter’ programme was to expose and educate students on the roles and responsibilities of a firefighter.

He said the programme also provided insights to students on the department’s functions and activities especially in terms of community participation.

The programme took place at Bomba Sarawak headquarters at Jalan Setia Raja on Wednesday (Sept 7).

“The outcome of the programme was tremendous as it was an eye opener to them.

“We imbedded the attitude, skills, knowledge, experience, and determination (ASKED) approach in the activities that were conducted in the programme,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Wednesday (Sept 7).

Khirudin hoped the programme will be conducted with more students as it is good platform for dissemination of knowledge.

He said the students were given hands-on experience through demonstrations and games.

“We are looking forward to organise more programmes like this in the future.

“At the same time, we welcome the public especially families with children to visit our Community Learning Centre (CLC) at our Batu Lintang Fire Station,” he added.
