MIRI: Students, who will be sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination end of this January, are reminded to stay focus and calm.

The SPM 2023 is scheduled to take place from January 30 until March 7 this year.

“SPM is very important, with good results in SPM it will make your future steps easier,” said Minister for Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin during an awards presentation to 133 Form Five students of SMK Lopeng Tengah here on Saturday.

The award presentation ceremony was held at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country club.

“In less than a month, you all will be sitting for the SPM examination, don’t waste time, because it’s time for you to stay focus to do the best and produce good results,” Lee pointed out.

He pointed out that with excellent results, they could secure good job prospect or further their studies at the tertiary level.

“As we all know, the Sarawak government is investing heavily in education as it wants to produce talented Sarawakians to help achieve a high income state status by 2030,” Lee told the recipients.

Hence, he added, the state’s education must keep up with the global challenges.

“Our education system must overcome the challenges,” he said.

Also present were SMK Lopeng Tengah’s principal, Yew Kok Wing, the school’s Parent-Teacher Association chairman Spaiee Julai and principal of  IBS college Miri Dr Anthony Hii.

Last year, Lee had disbursed incentive grants worth RM20,000 to the school’s PTA.

Four of the school’s top scorers in the SPM 2022 had benefited from the incentive grants.
