KOTA SAMARAHAN: Kuching Polytechnic students share their skills in air-conditioning maintenance with the people of Kampung Mang here.
Polytechnic Kuching Student Affairs Department Head Mahathir Mohamad Kamin said the activity was part of the polytechnic’s community service programme.
“The objective of this programme is to develop holistic and balanced graduates and students in addition to providing technical and vocational training (VET) skills to the community through a volunteer programme.
“It is part of technology transfer, sharing of knowledge and volunteerism,” he explained.
The air-conditioning maintenance activity was carried out by the students of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration).
With them were students from the other diploma programmes.
The students stayed with host families in the village.
Other activities held during their stay were the Smart Solat programme for villagers, especially for teenagers and youths, maghrib lectures and a “gotong royong” programme with the community.
The programme, which began from April 5 to 7 at Kampung Mang, was organised by the Students Islamic Centre in collaboration with Sukarelawan YES! of Sarawak Polytechnic Kuching.
