KUALA LUMPUR: The Sarawak Government will look into providing assistance in the form of subsidies for Sarawak students studying in West Malaysia to return to vote in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the matter will be discussed among Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders.
“I cannot give a specific answer yet. Let us discuss among our leaders first on how we can provide assistance to our Sarawakian children returning to Sarawak to vote.
He said this during the Sarawak Agenda Town Hall with Premier held in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2022 at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here on Saturday (Oct 15).
Abang Johari, who is also the GPS chairman said, “Tauk tauk reti, mun balit, sine tuju” (You know, when you return, who knows where you will go then).
“We want Sarawak voices to be heard loud and clear by Putrajaya. What is important for us (GPS) is that we are now negotiating on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“If GPS has a big voice, of course Putrajaya will also listen to us. So (Putrajaya), ‘jangan main-main’ (don’t play around) because we have huge support from the people.
“You have to listen to us in our negotiation on MA63,” said Abang Johari.
