BINTULU: Sarawak’s Mifdhal Wafiy Ayatullah and Mohamad Azrell Saifullah Abdullah won gold in the men’s Mai Muay final despite competing together as a pair for the first time in the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024.
The pair shared that during the final they remained unfazed by their opponents from Sabah despite showing a narrow lead of 8.80 points.
Sabah’s Asyraf Danial Abdul Latif and Marshall Jaydden Jerry were only 0.20 points behind, scoring 8.60 points.
The atmosphere was electric as both Borneo states waved their flags and exchanged popular local songs like ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis’ and ‘Original Sabahan’.
Both Mifdhal and Mohamad Azrell dedicated their wins to their families.
“This is for Sarawak, the Land of the Hornbills, to make my family proud,” they told Sarawak Tribune today (Aug 19).
Mifdhal, 17, from Kota Samarahan and Mohamad Azrell, 18, from Taman SUKMA shared that their everyday training was worth it.
“We were ready. We had trained everyday for this,” they said.
