Treated water supply is crucial. However, such facility seems to be far out of reach for the community in Selangau and Arip towns due to the low capacity of water treatment plant.
Christopher Gira Sambang (GPS-Tamin) disclosed this was due to the fact that the water treatment plant in Selangau town supplies treated water to coal plant in Mukah whereby, the communities in both towns are unable to have treated water due to low capacity from the water treatment plant.
And therefore, he suggested the authorities to disconnect the supply of water to coal plants and source the water from Mukah water treatment plant or upgrade the water treatment plant capacity in Selangau and supply treated water to the communities resettling along Sibu – Bintulu road.
“Hereby, I appeal to the government to look into these options seriously since the supply of treated water to the communities resettling along Sibu – Bintulu road is in critical condition especially during the drought, as the communities at the moment are still depending on rain water and gravity feed water for their daily use,” he said when debating on the motion of the TYT’s speech.
Meanwhile, Gira also called on the government to address the abandoned logging roads to be upgraded from earth road to gravel road which will allow better access for the public.
The affected roads are located at Ulu Oya, Ulu Pakoh, Ulu Mukah and Ulu Selangau, he pointed out.
