SIBU: The carnival held in conjunction with the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) serves as a platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products.
Deputy chef de mission (cdm) for badminton Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said the SUKMA carnival here is being participated by 42 entrepreneurs, with sales recorded at over RM50,000 as of yesterday (Aug 19), the third day.
“Therefore, I expect at least over RM100,000 (sales recorded) because we still have four more days to go.
“I believe this is not the first time the Sibu Resident’s Office has done this. We did it once during the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR), so we already have experience,” he said.
The Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government said this when met by reporters after officiating at the launch ceremony at the Sibu Indoor Stadium today.
He said the carnival is also a good platform not only for the entrepreneurs but also for sports.
“We are also very glad to see that many members of the public have come here to support these local entrepreneurs and to also support the athletes.
“This is a place where we celebrate our Malaysian unity, a place where we celebrate our diverse cultures, with people from various backgrounds,” he added.
Also present were Sibu Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili and Sibu Deputy Resident Christopher Ranggau Unting.
