SUKMA Carnival to showcase Sarawak’s rich culinary heritage

KUCHING: The upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) will not only be a celebration of sports but also a vibrant showcase of Sarawak’s rich culinary heritage, local products, and cultural performances through the SUKMA Carnival.

Organised by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, the Resident’s Office, and the Divisional Entrepreneur Development Council, the SUKMA Carnival aims to promote local small and medium-sized industries (SMIs).

One of the main attractions, Sarawak Kitchen, will serve up a delightful mix of traditional and modern dishes, while food trucks will offer a diverse array of snacks and beverages.

The carnival will also feature a wide range of activities designed to engage visitors and showcase the unique cultural heritage of the region.

The SUKMA Carnival will be held at various locations across Sarawak, with each region hosting the event on different dates to coincide with the SUKMA XXI.

In the Kuching region, the carnival will take place at Dataran Perayaan, Petra Jaya from August 15 to 24.

The carnival will also be hosted at Community Hall, Lundu from August 19 to 23, and at the Serian Conference Centre from August 17 to 24.

In the Kota Samarahan region, the carnival will be held at the Indoor Stadium from August 13 to 23. Meanwhile, in Sri Aman, the event will take place at the Indoor Stadium, Sports Complex from August 17 to 24.

The Stephen Kalong Ningkan Hall in Betong will host the carnival from August 19 to 23. In Sibu, the event will be held at the Indoor Stadium from August 17 to 24.

In Bintulu, the Naim Paragon Street Mall will host the event from August 14 to 20, while Stadium Muhibah and Stadium Bintulu will both hold the carnival from August 12 to 23.

In Mukah, the carnival will be spread across multiple venues: Padang Mesra MDDM on August 12, 14, 16, 19, 20, 22, and 24; Politeknik Mukah from August 17 to 23; UiTM Mukah from August 11 to 24; and Stadium Mukah on August 12, 14, 16, 19, 20, 22, and 24.

In Miri, the carnival will be held at Stadium Miri from August 17 to 24.

Visitors to the carnival can look forward to a packed schedule of activities, including cultural performances, product promotions, karaoke competitions, cooking demonstrations, and more.
