KUCHING: Discussions are underway between the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) regarding the funding for the 2024 Malaysian Games (SUKMA).

Minister Hannah Yeoh said the federal government is committed to supporting Sarawak in best possible way.

“We’re actively discussing with the Sarawak Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) ministry to prepare for next year’s SUKMA,” Yeoh told reporters after the opening ceremony of the KBS MYSED ‘Sukan Perpaduan’ programme held at Megalanes in Batu Kawa here today (Nov 18).

Meanwhile, MYSED Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the preparation for the SUKMA is going well.

“We have a RM124 million budget for sports facilities and RM80 million for athlete training,” Abdul Karim said.

As the host, Sarawak will contribute significantly, while also discussing federal support.

He suggested federal subsidies for other states’ athletes traveling to Sarawak, given the aerial mode of transportation.
