KUCHING: The government’s announcement of a RM600 allocation for eligible singles next year has sparked mixed reactions.

While many beneficiaries expressed gratitude, some questioned the sufficiency of the amount amidst rising living costs.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim unveiled the initiative during the tabling of the 2025 Budget on Friday.

The allocation, part of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) programme, aims to provide financial relief to low- and middle-income individuals.

This increase will support nine million recipients, representing 60 per cent of the population.

I have a very positive opinion about the STR, particularly for single individuals. However, I wonder if this assistance will genuinely benefit the recipients. I believe the STR is crucial for those who can effectively utilise the funds, as it offers financial support to singles that are in significant need. My hope is that this assistance will be used wisely and will truly help the recipients, especially those who are single.

I believe the STR 2025 is a positive initiative because it enables the government to support citizens with their income. As a student without any income, the STR is crucial for me, providing the financial assistance I need. My hope is to use the funds wisely, saving money to further my education.

It’s an initiative that provides encouragement and motivation to help alleviate the financial burden and improve the well-being of eligible recipients. The STR is incredibly beneficial, as it supports low-income individuals and those in need by reducing their daily living expenses, particularly in today’s challenging cost of living environment. I am hopeful that this assistance will significantly help meet basic needs and improve the quality of life for many.

It’s a commendable initiative by the government aimed at alleviating financial burdens, particularly for singles like me. While the amount may not be substantial, it can still help with daily expenses. I believe the STR is beneficial, although RM600 may not fully cover all needs, it can certainly be allocated for essentials such as food, utility bills, or emergency savings. I hope recipients, including myself, will use the STR wisely. If possible, I intend to apply it toward essential daily needs.

I see some benefits in the STR, but RM600 isn’t enough to meet my essential needs. While it can help with small expenses, it doesn’t solve the bigger financial challenges many face today due to rising living costs. I hope the STR provides temporary relief, but I also want stronger policies to address the root causes of financial instability. If I receive the assistance, I plan to use it wisely.

Although the amount may not be large, it can help ease some financial stress and cover essential expenses, making a difference in my daily life. Every little bit counts, and it shows that the government is paying attention to our needs. I also wish this initiative encourages more discussions about long-term support solutions for singles in our community.
