KUCHING: Sarawak People’s Congress (SPC) and Dayak Interests Group (DIG) will be holding a 722 Independence Day Summit at Grand Continental Hotel on July 23 here.
Themed ‘Close Encounters With Inconvenient Truths’, its coordinator Lina Soo said the summit aims to provide insight and separate facts and fiction on many issues namely, Malaysia Agreement, Sarawak oil and gas rights, Borneo States’ rights, freedom of religion, Dayak issues, symbolism of Sarawak Independence Day and politics today.
In a statement on Monday she also confirmed that activist lawyer Siti Kasim; Sabah Law Society president Roger Chin; Suarah Petroleum Group honorary secretary Yusuf Abdul Rahman; Dayak National Congress president Paul Raja; and Dr John Brian Anthony and George Young who are the prime movers of DIG will speak at the event.
“Also sharing the rostrum will be university student Mohamed Hyypia Rosmaini, who is a strong advocate for greater political participation among the youths and has immense interest in Sarawak’s political development,” she said.
Hyypia is actively involved in several youth-led initiatives which include Undi Sarawak, Parliament Digital and Dewan Muda Malaysia and is a role model for our youth today who will become tomorrow’s leaders, added Soo.
“There will also be a bonus appearance by three personalities via Zoom platform namely influential political analyst James Chin from Tasmania; lawyer Robert Pei from Australia; and regional correspondent Murray Hunter from Thailand, who are specially invited to give their take on Sarawak Independence Day,” she said.
Meanwhile, Soo herself will also be one of the speakers at the summit.
