ASAJAYA: The recently concluded Sunathon 2.0 2023 programme marked another successful chapter as 82 boys underwent circumcision at the An-Najah Mosque.

The said programme was organised by the Asajaya Health Clinic in collaboration with Sarawak General Hospital, Sarawak Heart Centre, Asajaya District Office and the mosque committee.

Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the programme garnered participation not only from Muslims but also non-Muslims in the area.

“This programme is a good community programme as it not only brings together the people in the area but also lessens the burden of the parents in getting their children circumcised as the circumcision service here is free of charge,” he said.

He said this during the press conference after officiating at the programme here today (Dec 17).

Citing costs ranging from RM150 to RM250 per person in private clinics in Kuching, he said circumcision could pose a financial strain to low-income or underprivileged families.

“If the family is that of a low income family, it will be hard for them to fork up such an amount of money. That is why I thank the Asajaya Health Clinic and encourage more programmes such as this to be organised.

“Similar to any other years, I am glad that the programme today was also well received as it was not only participated by those from Samarahan but also by those from the Kuching division,” he said.

During the programme, Abdul Karim announced an increased allocation of RM30,000 for a similar programme in the following year, up from the current year’s RM20,000.
