KUCHING: The Sungai Batu Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Depot is set to become the central hub supporting the operations and administration of ART’s hydrogen vehicles (H2V), says Sarawak Land and Survey superintendent Alfian Bawi.
He added that the depot will feature essential facilities such as the Backup Control Centre, infrastructure workshop, mechanical workshop, test track, stabling yard, H2 fuel refueling facilities, H2 feeder bus depot, and H2 fuel production and storage plant.
“For this project, a total of 50 lots of land have been acquired and compensated for the construction of the depot.
“Today, 70 landowners will receive compensation totalling RM23,425,726.90 for the repossession of their lands, covering an area of approximately 113 acres,” he said during the Land Compensation Cheque Handover Ceremony held at the Sarawak Foundation Auditorium on today (Feb 16).
He stressed that the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) aims to serve as the backbone of the public transport system, enhancing connectivity across Kuching and ensuring inclusive development throughout the state.
“Improved accessibility will indirectly boost economic activity by attracting more investment, increasing real estate values, and generating job opportunities along the ART network.”
Expressing hope for the state government’s continued commitment to safeguarding the needs and well-being of its people, he underscored the Land and Survey Department’s dedication to providing excellent services in facilitating development.
“Cooperation from everyone is vital for the prosperity and wellbeing of Sarawak,” Alfian said.
