PUSA: The Sungai Krian Bridge is expected to be completed by July 2025, said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Aidel Lariwoo.
Work on the 690-metre bridge has resumed after many delays due to several factors.
“Among the main problems are the electric cables in the river and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“However, it has now been possible to restart (the construction work) more aggressively involving additional costs due to the increase in the prices of building materials and the effects of problems in the very technical contract.
“Roughly, the new contract involves an increase of RM112 million compared to the original contract of RM75 million.
“This shortest bridge along Jalan Pesisir is expected to be completed in July 2025,” said the Sadong Jaya assemblyman said inspecting the project here yesterday (Feb 16).
Elaborating on the delay of the project, Aidel explained that even though the contract period was early, there was a problem in the river section.
“What happened was that the electric cables were very close to the construction site.
“Therefore, the PWD had to suspend part of the contract involving work on the river and once the work was completed, the suspension was lifted and the work was handed back to the contractor to continue.
“However, this caused the contract period to be extended and brought forward until 2025.
“Looking at the status and commitment from PWD, contractors, consultants and all parties involved, I am confident that this bridge can be completed early,” said Aidel.
