KUALA LUMPUR: Sunlight Malaysia has successfully graduated eight women from its inaugural ‘Tangan Tangan Terer’ program—a venture aimed at empowering women from underserved communities.

The two-month intensive programme, organized in collaboration with Ibupreneur Malaysia, has equipped the graduates with essential entrepreneurial skills, propelling them towards their business aspirations.

Nur Nadhirah, one of the top three finalists, expressed gratitude for the program, as it transformed her business idea into reality through practical hands-on modules taught by industry experts. Nur Nadhirah, a housewife, mother, and founder of Nurhalwa.co, a business that sells ‘tudung bawal’ (headscarves), said she learned a lot through the program.

“It was a humbling journey to go through the training alongside the other participants. I learned more about my strengths and gained valuable insights on how to improve on my weaknesses, which will help me in my entrepreneurship journey,” she said.

Meanwhile, Hong Ee Fen, Homecare Lead for Unilever Malaysia and Singapore, expressed delight in celebrating the graduation of the eight inspirational women.

“We firmly believe that through this programme, more women will be inspired by these graduates to reach for the stars. They too will be empowered to embark on a transformative journey to reinvent their future and pursue sustainable livelihoods,” she said.

Launched in July 2023 with the hashtag #JadiLebihLadi, the programme aimed to offer women opportunities to upskill and realize their potential beyond traditional roles.

Supported by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, the programme consists of ten educational modules covering various aspects, including product development, digital marketing, financial management, legal matters, and sales.

With a positive response of 395 applications for the program, Sunlight plans to launch the second instalment, inviting participation from April 2024 onwards.

The aim is to reach 800 Malaysian women, providing them with opportunities to upskill for the betterment of their families and contribute meaningfully to the community and nation.
