KUALA LUMPUR: Sunway Medical Centre (SMC), Sunway City celebrated its 25th anniversary with the hosting of its annual SunMed Health carnival at the iconic tower D lobby here on September 8.

With a focus on promoting healthcare education and raising awareness within the community, the carnival drew an enthusiastic crowd, offering a vibrant mix of family-friendly, health-focused activities that engaged visitors from all walks of life.

SMC, Sunway City chief executive officer (CEO), Dr Seow Vei Ken highlighted the event’s dual purpose of promoting healthcare excellence while strengthening community bonds.

“The carnival is more than just a symbol of our ongoing commitment towards being inclusive and providing healthcare excellence to the community but also serves as a fun and engaging space that brings everyone together and celebrate their health and well-being.

I’m a firm believer that our carnival does foster a strong sense of community and helps educate the importance of wellness by making informed decisions toward adopting healthier lifestyles,” Seow said.

The carnival bridged the gap between healthcare and fun, offering educational games focused on memory, hand-eye coordination, endurance, and more.

These activities provided participants with valuable insights into their health while enhancing their reflexes and cognition.

In a nod to Malaysia’s cultural heritage, the event also featured its first-ever hands-on batik arts and crafts workshop, where attendees could unleash their creativity and create personalised batik masterpieces.

In addition to the games and arts activities, various health screening booths were available, allowing visitors to assess their overall well-being.

Screenings included vision, speech and hearing tests, body composition analyses, and checks on kidney health, diabetic care, and more.

“Their contributions to our complimentary screenings, exclusive door gifts and premium lucky draw prizes greatly enriched the experience for all attendees, enabling us to provide valuable health services, education and rewards to the community,” Seow said.

Established in 1999, SMC is Malaysia’s largest quaternary hospital and the only one to hold three prestigious hospital-wide accreditations, including the Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation with the Gold Seal of Approval, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).

With 28 Centres of Excellence, more than 60 medical specialties, and 724 licensed beds—set to expand to 1,100 beds by the end of 2025—SMC continues to raise the standard of healthcare in the region.

“We look forward to organising more fun and engaging community outreach programmes as part of our ongoing efforts to elevate the standard of healthcare in the region, especially since we are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year,” Seow said.
