BINTULU: Tanjong Batu rep Johnny Pang Leong Ming led a delegation from the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bintulu branch on a visit OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd in Samalaju yesterday (May 3) to push Bintulu into becoming an industrialised economy.

The purpose of the visit was to expose SUPP Bintulu members to the operations of the large factory and provide them with an understanding of Bintulu’s role as an industrial hub.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by OM Materials (Sarawak) chief executive officer (CEO) Chen Xiao Dong and his office manager, Moses Yu Ek Shen.

During the visit, Moses briefed the group on the company’s smelting complex, which was built in 2013 and which began production in 2014.

For the record, OM Materials (Sarawak) is the main smelting complex of the OM Holdings Group, with more than 75 per cent of its 1,650 employees being locals.

The smelting complex focuses on the production of manganese alloy and ferrosilicon, which have recently begun to be exported to countries in Asia, Europe, and to the United States.

In 2022, the complex contributed an average of RM73 million per month to the Sarawak economy.
