BINTULU: The Bintulu Branch of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) remains dedicated to working diligently, understanding the people’s issues, and striving to deliver exceptional service to the citizens in the areas it represents.
Johnny Pang Leong Ming, the Chairman of the branch and also the Tanjong Batu assemblyman, firmly believes that the party can only earn the people’s trust by providing sincere service.
Pang expressed his views on SUPP’s journey, stating that the party has encountered numerous challenges but achieved remarkable success by reclaiming the Tanjong Batu state assembly seat from the opposition in the 2021 state election (PRN), after a hiatus of 20 years.
“This achievement serves as a tremendous motivation for SUPP. We pledge to persist in our hard work, engage with the community, and deliver the best service possible.
“Through sincerity, we will continue to earn the people’s trust, maintain Sarawak’s harmony, and uphold peace,” Pang remarked during the 65th-anniversary flag-raising ceremony of SUPP, held on Tuesday.
In the 2021 state election, Pang secured a historic victory for SUPP, a constituent party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), by ending the Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) 20-year reign in the Tanjong Batu seat with a slim majority of 23 votes.
He garnered 4,092 votes, triumphing over Tony Chiew Chan Yew from DAP, who received 4,069 votes.
Chiew ran as a proxy for his father, Chiew Chin Sing, the incumbent DAP member who decided not to contest for a fifth term.
During his speech, the Tanjong Batu assemblyman encouraged party members to collaborate closely with the party leadership to fortify internal cohesion.
Pang also emphasized that the presence of party members at the event, where the SUPP flag was proudly raised, signified their unwavering dedication to the party’s growth.
“I hope this spirit will continue to burn brightly, strengthening our party and uniting us all,” he concluded.
