KUCHING: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) has categorically denied news reports by some local newspapers, quoting its president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian that the party had received money from the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
“The news reports are incorrect and misleading,” the party secretariat said in a brief media statement issued here yesterday.
The party “stood by its press release made on June 21, 2019 with regard to the civil forfeiture suit filed by MACC against 41 entities and persons”, it added.
On June 21, the party secretariat, in an immediate response to an announcement by MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya, said the party would let the law take its course in the matter.
SUPP was among 41 individuals and entities named as respondents by MACC in a civil forfeiture suit to recover RM270mil related to 1MDB.
“The party stands by that press release and party president has nothing else to add,” the statement added.
