SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Youth wing will organise the Sarawak Day Cycling programme on July 23, said its chief Yiing Sy Hung.

According to Yiing in a press conference yesterday, the event, which is co-organised with Cygnus Cycling Club, would begin at 7am and include a 10-kilometre route that will take participants from Jalan Awang Ramli Amit to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and back again to the town square.

He added the committee members had chosen “Cycling for Health, Cycling for Environment, Cycling for the Future” as the theme for the programme, which is limited to 500 cyclists.

“Participants of all ages are welcome, however, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by their parents or guardians.

“Those aged 13 to 18 must have their parents’ permission to participate,” he said.

The entry fee is RM75 per person, with each cyclist receiving a complimentary cycling jersey.

Meanwhile, representative from Cygnus Cycling Club, Josh Law said the cycling event would be registered using a QR code that can be found at SUPP Dudong office and on the club’s Facebook page.

“All participants must prepare basic cycling safety equipment, such as helmets, headlights and rear tail flash, apart from wearing shoes,” he stressed.

He added during the event, other road users should be aware of the cyclists and preserve a culture of mutual courtesy.
