SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party has given the thumbs-up after Scoot adjusted its first Singapore-Sibu flight schedule on June 5.
The party’s Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong said it was originally scheduled to depart at 5.25am on June 5, but now this been changed to 12.35pm.
“Thanks to Scoot for handling the flight schedule flexibly, especially for listening to the needs of Sibu residents,” he said in a statement on April 19.
Scoot announced in early March this year that it would operate a new route from Singapore/Sibu three times a week starting June 5.
Wong felt the original flight time was not friendly and convenient, especially for seniors and children, so he requested Scoot to make adjustments on March 10.
“If the flight departs at 5.25am, it means passengers need to arrive at Changi Airport around 3am to wait. Therefore, passengers may need to stay overnight at a hotel near the airport, incurring additional accommodation costs.
“I am delighted that Scoot has heard our voice,” he said, hoping the
new flight time will be permanent.
At the same time, he hoped that through Scoot’s direct flights to Singapore/Sibu, it will not only facilitate Sibu travelers returning home and boost local tourism development but also enhance exchange and cooperation between Singapore and Sibu in trade, education, medical care, culture and more.
Additionally, he also expressed special thanks to the Deputy Chairman of SUPP cum Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, for his concern and efforts regarding the direct flight route from Singapore to Sibu.
