KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has agreed to the request of carrying out upgrading and maintenance works at Jalan Liu Shan Bang/7th Mile road intersection at night instead of during the day.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) chief Wilfred Yap who made the request has expressed gratitude towards MPP and their contract contractor for agreeing to such request.
He said this was due to the heavy traffic at the intersection during the day. Conducting the works at night would prevent traffic jams and minimise inconvenience to the public.
He said he along with other SUPP 7th Mile sub-branch members as well as Penghulu Lai Boon Khee and Kapitan Lee Tho Fung during their activities on the ground were often approached by residents and the business community of the 7th Mile area regarding upgrading and road maintenance issues.
“During one of such frequent visits, the residents and business community had complained of the poor condition of the road intersection with traffic lights at Jalan Liu Shan Bang/7th Mile, Kota Sentosa.
“The matter was brought up to the attention of MPP Engineering Department and the government funding for the upgrading and maintenance works was recently approved,” he said in statement today.
He assured that they would continue to serve as the eyes and ears of the community residing in the area to ensure that the infrastructure facilities in the Kota Sentosa area were maintained properly for the benefit of the community living there.
Yap, who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa branch chairman, will also continue to highlight and try to resolve issues of public interest affecting the public.
“On another matter, there now appears to be light at the end of the tunnel with the impending rollout of mass Covid-19 vaccinations by the government,” he said.
With the end of the Covid-19 pandemic in the not too distant future, he hoped that the federal and Sarawak government would now focus beyond Covid-19 and use all policy tools at their disposal to create jobs and investment opportunities which would directly generate jobs.
“Emphasis should now be on long-term job creation measures and incentives matching productivity with a living wage, especially for the older workers aged above 45, through reskilling, upskilling, and training programmes,” he said.
