KUCHING: A grassroots leader of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has questioned the so-called struggles of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) for Sarawak and its people.
“We do not know what PSB is struggling for. Since its break away from SUPP, its leaders are often perceived as self-promoters who pursued their own interests,” said SUPP Mambong branch deputy chairman Ahkim Sarok.
He pointed out that PSB was never in the GPS, but was only GPS-friendly.
When asked if PSB is a big threat to GPS in the coming state election, he said it might win some seats but would not adversely affect GPS chances of retaining its power.
He also does not think that PSB will overcome Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) as some of its candidates are dropouts from PRS and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“For reasons that are best known to themselves, its members and leaders have chosen not to cooperate with the government. They are actually not GPS-friendly as they would have Sarawakians believe,” he said.
Reacting to claims that PSB is a rich party supported by tycoons, Akhim was of the opinion that money is just one asset, albeit a big one, but there are other factors that can sway voters.
“BN had all the money in the last general election but they still lost, which showed that money is not everything to win in an election,” he said.
Some sources said PSB is eying 36 seats in the coming state election and the majority of them are Dayak seats.
