KUCHING: President of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said that SUPP will always be with the government of the day. “Together with PBB, PRS and PDP, we are the Sarawak Government of the day under the leadership of our Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“We believe the four local based parties shall remain united together for our mission to regain Sarawak rights, privileges and interests under MA 63, Federal or State Constitution or State laws or ordinances or any other legal instruments which have been eroded over the years as well as to ensure the existing ones are respected and duly complied with in letter and in spirit,” he explained.
Dr Sim who is also the State Minister for Local Government and Housing added they were looking forward to meeting the other three parties to discuss the ways forward.
“We also see our meeting as an opportunity to address our weaknesses in administrating the Sarawak Government so that we could further enhance our strengths and integrity in governance, policy making and economy planning. “Our hearts and minds are totally with the people and we are fully committed in building a stronger and greater Sarawak that all Sarawakians can be very proud of,” he said.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister had a meeting with his own party, PBB and came to a decision that they would form a coalition among the state parties without Barisan Nasional. Abang Johari added that the coalition would work together with the new federal government, Pakatan Harapan.
In the recent general election (GE14), PBB won 13 seats, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) won three seats, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) with two seats and SUPP with one seat. There is a total of 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak.
