MIRI: Miri Hospital is facing low supply of face shields.

Due to the shortage, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Piasau branch led by its chairman Datuk Sebastian Ting has started to produce DIY (do it yourself) face shields to help Miri Hospital healthcare personnel.

Ting models the finished product of the DIY face shield.

According to Ting who is SUPP secretary general, the idea came up after he was informed of the low supply of the material by Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong. SUPP Piasau has since produced 1,000 DIY face shields.

“These face shields will be delivered to Miri Hospital, so the medical healthcare teams could use it when testing and treating Covid-19 patients,” said Ting.

He pointed out that face shield was crucial for the medical staff to cover  their face while treating patients to protect against flying respiratory droplets that can transmit the virus, such as through coughs and sneezes.

Ting also welcomed individuals or private companies who want to contribute in helping them produce the face shields for Miri Hospital healthcare staff.

“Let us stand united together and do our bit to better equip our frontliners in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
