MIRI: Members of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) recently visited their Penan, Iban and Kayan party colleagues from SUPP Baram, Bekenu and Telang Usan.

SUPP Women Chief Kho Teck Wan said the visit was to catch up with party members and to find out if they were facing any issues.

“Political secretaries Tan Kai, Soo Li Ching and Daniel Bujal and I visited some none constituency branches in Miri. Due to the movement control order (MCO), SUPP did not have much activities the past two years.

“Those in none constituency branches do not have our party’s elected representative to look after them, so we were there to learn about their issues so that these could be conveyed to party central for attention,” she told New Sarawak Tribune on Friday (April 1).

Kho explained that none constituency branches refer to constituencies not represented by SUPP candidates during the state or parliamentary election.

“For example, Satok is represented by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) but SUPP has a Satok branch. Thus, the SUPP Satok branch is a none constituency branch,” she said.

Kho felt particularly grateful to meet the native members as many of them are the second and third generation party members, adding that their parents and grandparents helped establish some of the oldest branches in SUPP.

“Our party started in 1959, some of the oldest branches are from the rural areas and their families have been with the party for decades. I am thankful to them for staying with the party during its ups and downs.

“As we move forward, let’s continue to carry the baton and grow together,” she said.

She added that SUPP started its visit in Tanjung Datu in Lundu, followed by Kapit and then Miri.

“We will try to cover all of our none constituency branches,” she said.
