MIRI: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is relieved to learn that the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court Datuk Seri Latifah Mohd Tahar had issued a letter dated April 23, 2019, stating that the relocation of the office of the Registrar would not be carried out (dilaksanakan) on May 1, 2019.

SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting who is also Piasau assemblyman said that he would be filing an Originating Summons to bring the matter to court against Law Minister Datuk Liew Vui Kiong, the Government of Malaysia and perhaps also the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

However, in a statement yesterday, Ting said, “The quick and immediate response by the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court Datuk Seri Latifah is indeed commendable. We thank her for that.”

“Upon receipt of a copy of the above-mentioned letter dated April 23 (today) through WhatsApp, my legal team and I immediately had a discussion. We agreed that in view of the change in circumstances as mentioned in the said letter we will KIV our intended court action, for now.

“Perhaps it is also appropriate for Law Minister Datuk Liew Vui Kiong to issue a statement regarding the blatant breach of Article 121(4) of our Federal Constitution, which he did not see or fail to see in the first place. If indeed he had seen it, he would not have advised our Prime Minister before our Prime Minister made the erroneous decision to advise our Yang di- Pertuan Agong,” Ting said.

On Monday, Ting requested Liew that as a responsible Law Minister and a man of principle he should surmount his courage and do the right thing.

“He should apologise to the Chief Minister of Sarawak and the people of Sarawak. This is because as the Law Minister he is the protector of our Constitution and must not allow any abrogation or violation of our Constitution,” Ting pointed out.

“Today, we still urge the Law Minister to apologise to the Chief Minister of Sarawak and the people of Sarawak for his failure to safeguard our Constitution and to ensure that no blatant breach of our Constitution, as in this case, should ever happen,” demanded Ting.

SUPP would like to say ” Thank you very much” to our friends, supporters and the people of Sarawak, including our media friends, for their strong support, warm words of encouragement and prayers which we have received since Monday and continue to receive.

“Indeed, Sarawak must Always come First,” he concluded.
